The Messerschmidt yellow lab doesn't disappoint

The Messerschmidt lab lead out up one of the big rollers

For the past three years (every year that I've done the Ponca Ride) we've come across this yellow lab at the Messerschmidt Farm. The first year when he came blastin' out of the backyard of the Messerschmidt farmhouse I thought we were in trouble, but quickly realized the dog just wanted someone to pal around with. He ran along side us for miles. And those miles weren't easy. The biggest gravel rollers of the entire ride are along that stretch. We had to bury ourselves to get away. Honestly, I don't know how he did it.

Last year it was more of the same.

This year when he came out we decided to stop and say hi. He was stoked. One by one he came up to each of us to say hi. After hanging out for a bit we continued on with our new friend in tow. I didn't see it, but I heard he did a couple of barrel rolls after getting tripped up and then got right back on it without missing a beat. He's a highlight of the Ponca Ride for me every year.

That guy rivals the DBD lab that Farrow and I encounter north of Duluth. The DBD dog once did 21 miles with us, we were worried about him. He just wouldn't quit.
